Citation vs Ticket
Citations: what are they? If you did something wrong while driving, or if your vehicle is parked, you have a violation on your record. Citations are simply called "tickets" in a less formal context. Citations and tickets are the same thing. This is typically a written document issued by a police officer in both cases. The police may issue a citation if the speeding camera indicates that you didn't obey traffic laws. In most cases, you will be required to pay a fine and may even have to appear in court or face jail time if the offense is serious enough.
What is the difference between a citation and a warning? Citation tickets are what are they? As both terms refer to the same thing, the debate between citations and tickets is a bit redundant. The word citation simply means a ticket in a more formal setting. A warning, on the other hand, is not as serious as a citation.
Whenever a driver is caught violating a traffic law, the officer will issue them a ticket or citation. Citations are formal legal charges against the driver, attesting to their violation of traffic laws. Most of these violations are not considered crimes, however.
Based on the severity and consequences of the infraction, tickets can be divided into three main categories. You can receive a warning or fine for a driving offense, or you may be jailed. The majority of insurance premium increases are due to warnings.
